EBS AI Contest 2024: A contest for pioneers in AI application

Recently, the Battle round of the EBS AI Contest 2024 took place with great enthusiasm, featuring the participation of nearly 500 EBS developers from across the country. This marks the first time EBS has organized a professional platform for all developers, providing an opportunity for them to showcase their talents and knowledge in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI)—a key program at both the corporate and unit levels.

AI is increasingly penetrating various sectors and driving significant changes, particularly through large language models like GenAI. Recognizing the value that AI brings to the organization, EBS leadership has embraced this trend. The EBS AI Contest 2024, held last week under the theme “Embrace the Future,” is a flagship initiative aimed at promoting widespread AI adoption across the unit, with a long-term goal of achieving “AI for Everyone at EBS”.

The Battle round was held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on August 15th, with participants divided into three groups, each focusing on different AI tools and applications tailored to project-specific needs:

  • Group A: DevSage
  • Group B: Microsoft Copilot
  • Group C: CodeVista

To ensure fairness and transparency, the competition topics were kept confidential and only revealed five minutes before the contest began, accompanied by a password to unlock the challenges. Throughout the event, an “AI police” team closely monitored and reminded participants to maintain the highest standards of the competition.

In Group A, contestants were tasked with creating a Sales Data Report with Monthly Breakdown, ensuring factors such as Data Sources, Key Metrics, Grouping Criteria, and Layout were met. Meanwhile, Group B integrated the competition into real-world scenarios by using Microsoft Copilot to solve current tasks related to Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, with results based on the number of valid prompts. Group C stood out by using the AI Tool CodeVista to create an essential feature for the e-commerce era—an online shopping function allowing users to browse stores, select favorite items, add them to their cart, and place orders.

In addition to the unit’s AI experts, a team from CodeVista was also present to quickly address any technical issues, ensuring the contest ran smoothly. This was also the first time that all EBS developers competed simultaneously, serving as a stress test for the AI tools and applications under a heavy user load.

Participants provided positive feedback, noting the contest’s novelty and the clarity of the challenges. Comments included: “New concept, exciting experience”; “The task was clear, with detailed requirements and specific scoring criteria. The difficulty level was moderate”; and “I didn’t think AI could do this…”

Commenting on the competition, Mr. Le Truong An from EBS.DEC, a member of the contest’s expert panel, shared, “Based on initial observations, the participants engaged with AI on their own and achieved excellent results. For the Front-end challenge, with just 1-2 prompt sentences, participants were able to complete a UI (HTML, CSS) including a product list with pagination and a shopping cart with selected items. The AI also fully integrated payment features with promotional criteria and a checkout pop-up validating basic required fields like email and phone. Similarly, for the Back-end challenge, with just one sample prompt, participants could create APIs with complete parameters and business rule checks; they just needed to replace the function names and business rules in the sample prompt to generate additional APIs as required.”

Following the Battle round, the judges will score the performances and select the top three contestants from each group to advance to the upcoming Showdown round.
