The story of two multilingual FSOFTers who mastered 3-4 foreign languages

Breaking free from their comfort zones, despite their job roles not strictly requiring multilingual proficiency, two 9x-generation FSOFTers – Lâm Phước Nguyên (FI.MS3) and Chang Diệu Tấn (JES.JHC) – have consistently honed their language skills, embracing the “Go Global” mindset alongside FSOFT. Their commitment to lifelong learning not only gives them a competitive edge at work but also opens doors to rich multicultural experiences within the company.

As a PM and BA at FSOFT, Nguyên and Tấn leverage their foreign language proficiency to maximize their professional effectiveness. By actively engaging with clients, they gain deeper insights into the projects they manage.

Having been exposed to multiple languages since his student days, FSOFTer Lâm Phước Nguyên (FI.MS3) has never been intimidated by the challenges of learning a new language, adapting to varying degrees of language demands in different environments.

A graduate of Logistics and Supply Chain Management from RMIT University, Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyên worked as a PM at an R&D company specializing in automotive technology before joining FSOFT. Transitioning into IT project management, he took on the role of System Service Manager for a supply chain system project in the Japanese market. Initially, he struggled with listening and speaking Japanese. Determined to achieve fluency to communicate more effectively with clients, he leveraged his prior knowledge of Chinese characters to facilitate his learning process.

“Since joining FSOFT, I have had the opportunity to participate in various Japanese IT and business language courses. Interestingly, while my project is based in the Japanese market, the end users and stakeholders come from different countries. This means that in addition to ‘studying abroad in Japan’ every day, I also use Chinese and English to interact with clients worldwide. Being multilingual allows me to work proactively with clients, significantly boosting work efficiency.”

Overcoming language barriers, Nguyên and his colleagues participated in the KAIWA CONTEST 2024, securing third place. He currently holds certifications in HSK 6, HSKK (Advanced Speaking), IELTS 7.5, and JLPT N2. Additionally, after a month of training with FSOFT mentors, he obtained the PMI-ACP certification, a prestigious credential in Agile project management.

Affirming that FSOFT is a solid launchpad for personal development, Nguyên continually explores new knowledge, expands his skill set, and positions himself to take on any project with confidence.

Unlike Nguyên, BA Chang Diệu Tấn (JES.JIV) did not initially have extensive language exposure. However, his passion for culture and determination to broaden his career opportunities drove him to achieve five international language certifications: TOEIC, HSK 6, TOCFL 6, JLPT N1, and recently, TOPIK 6 – covering four different languages.

“I firmly believe that language is the key to unlocking new experiences and opportunities. By engaging with clients both professionally and linguistically, I quickly grasp their expectations and working styles, leading to more effective collaboration,” shared Tấn.

Working in FSOFT’s international environment, Tấn sees each project as a “paid study abroad” experience. His multilingual abilities enable him to clarify complex requirements efficiently and communicate them clearly to his team. He also actively participates in meetings and negotiations with clients, ensuring precise and effective information exchange.

Tấn appreciates how FSOFT fosters continuous skill development through internal training courses. This dynamic and progressive work environment serves as an ideal hub for passionate learners. The sight of fellow FSOFTers enthusiastically exchanging knowledge and experiences further inspires him to keep learning and contributing to FSOFT’s collective success.
