Data Engineer Beauties of FHN.BU91

When it comes to software engineers, or data engineers like DE/DA, most people will default to being male, but at FHN.BU91, the force of female data engineers is equally strong.

FHN.BU91 is the unit responsible for building data capacity of FHN, also the unit with the strongest DE/DA force in FSU. Currently, FHN.BU91 is developing a plan to expand the client  base with data projects. Recently, the unit has kicked off a new project with S – one of the world’s largest building materials manufacturers with annual revenue of more than 6 billion USD and about 22,000 employees globally.

“Shaking hands” with this client, FHN.BU91 has built a solid foundation of Des. PM Hoang Duc Tai said that the advantage of female data engineers is their softness, meticulousness, and thoroughness. In particular, they are real “lead soldiers” when chasing targets.

Besides the previous DEs – Ms. Nguyen Vu Minh Nguyen and Ms. Le Thi Van Ly, recently FHN.BU91 welcomed the arrival of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa. Joining FSOFT from mid-June 2021, Ms. Hoa has high expectations: “Participating in the S-Data Pilots project is an opportunity for me to work with a ‘big man’ in the US, and improve my knowledge and expertise when working with experienced seniors”.

Having loved databases since she was a university student, Hoa has always been interested in data-related subjects and did plan to pursue this career since her 3rd year of university. “People often think of the data profession as dry, rigid, but every dataset has a story behind it. Have you ever wondered why you need to collect this data? What is its purpose? What method should be used to be able to collect it? Does it have any limitations? For me, every story is really fascinating, making me passionate about learning and studying”, she said.

Participating in the DE project, with a passion for the profession, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa was able to achieve the Microsoft Data Analyst Associate (DA-100) certificate, one of the competency certifications that every DE should possess. “This certificate outlines how to prepare data from scratch, how the data is processed, what to do if you encounter missing, noisy, or invalid data, what to do, or need to be removed the data to minimize data size. Having a certificate makes me more confident when joining FSOFT and participating in the project,” Hoa shared.

For Nguyen Vu Minh Nguyen, “labeling” data jobs as jobs for men does not make her falter. “The fact that people think this job is only for men is a stereotype. Men and women can do everything equally, just like there are a lot of successful men in the profession of chefs – a job where everyone thinks women are the majority.”

According to Ms. Nguyen, when jointly solving a problem set by the DE/DA profession, women’s advantages are their softness, flexibility, ability to concentrate, carefulness, and meticulousness to every detail. And those are the virtues that Ms. Nguyen is practicing every day.

Recently, DE is gradually emerging as a trend that makes career opportunities as well as remuneration for this industry increasing. That is also the reason that motivates many young people to choose DE to pursue and to hone their expertise and develop their capacity. This shows that not only men but women can also seriously pursue jobs related to IT or DE/DA. And certainly, with serious pursuit, women can win with success.
