The “links” in Skywise’s Big Data project

The participation of Data Analysts (DA) and Data Engineers (DE) at the Skywise project has been affirming FHM.AVI’s capacity in the field of Big Data with Airbus – a “giant” in the aviation industry.

Officially started in March 2018, Skywise is the project that makes FPT/FSOFT the first one from Southeast Asia to be a strategic partner of Airbus.

Skywise can be envisioned as a Big Data platform (also known as Foundry), developed by the famous American technology company Palantir to help businesses in the aviation industry. It helps this industry improves operations and business results, and supports the comprehensive digital transformation of aviation.

Skywise aim to provide a big data platform tailored to each airline and include scalable services (such as analytics, applications and application programming interfaces) that Airbus can use to ensure data continuity with multiple benefits throughout the value chain.

With 7 major projects applying a variety of data extraction, integration and visualization technologies, Skywise is considered a key Data program of FHM.AVI in particular and FHM in general.

Specifically, the project chains in Skywise include: Airlines Onboarding (connecting, integrating, transforming data of Airlines on the Skywise platform). In addition, the project also transforms aviation data into ontology objects, thereby building applications and workflows that Airlines can use); Data Decoding (decode the aircraft’s black box data); Data Capture Back Office (management of Airbus and Airlines data pipelines, from raw data). The project also builds applications for Airbus and Airlines to use data in the most efficient and optimal way.

5 Star Support (providing support services to Skywise platform users around the world, through the proposed ticket system and SLA); In-service (activities aimed at actively engaging with Airlines to promptly support, advise, guide and deploy premium services to respond and solve problems of airlines); Data Reliability (ensurin the integrity, accuracy, completeness and quality of data, especially reliability data in the aviation industry) and Developer Experience & Data Access (providing a programming interface) 3rd party application (API) and platform (SDK) to develop mobile/web applications with aeronautical data sources from Skywise).

In these projects, Data Engineers (DE), in addition to data processing skills, should have Software Engineering experience to participate in building web/front-end applications to visualize data and develop advanced web applications. In some special projects, DEs are also the ones who develos and deploy machine learning models in order to build applications that can use data in the best and most efficient way.

For Data Analysts (DA), they have to work directly with business owners to define, build, and manage data objects (ontologies), to fully describe the semantics and object formats in the aviation sector. From there, the DAs will do advanced analysis, make recommendations from the insights gained after thoroughly understanding the data types, and build “scenarios” and “stories” through the data visualization process.

It can be said that, along with other members, Data Analysts and Data Engineers are indispensable “links” in the Skywise project that FHM.AVI is in charge of. They are the “representatives” for the “voices” of the data.

Currently, the Skywise platform is serving more than 140 airlines and 9,500 aircraft worldwide, connecting data with a huge amount of data to more than 15PB and more than 20,000 users. Therefore, to meet the upcoming growth target, FHM in general and FHM.AVI in particular need to add more DA/DE to the projects.

“Data Engineer, Data Analyst and Data Scientist are very hot jobs at the moment and will be very attractive in the next 5-10 years. FHM.AVI is planning to train young people and software engineers who want to change jobs to specialize in data work”, said FHM.AVI Director, Mr. Tran Quang Minh Tan.

From the beginning of 2021 to the present, FHM.AVI has planned to invest and develop human resources capable of doing data, including programs to promote talent recruitment activities with attractive bonus programs, as well as deploy internal training activities to upskill members.

Candidates interested in becoming Data Engineer, Data Analyst or Data Scientist at FHM can send their CV to [email protected] and [email protected].
