FSOFT Hue accompanies FPT Japan to plant 1,002 trees in bare hills in Phong Dien – Thua Thien Hue

On December 13, FSOFT Hue accompanied FPT Japan, GAIA Nature Conservation Center, and rangers from Khe Liem Forest Protection Management Station to plant 1,002 trees (black stars, ironwoods, etc.) in the area of bare hills in Phong Dien district, Thua Thien – Hue. All of the seedlings are funded by FJP.

Khe Liem forest in Phong Dien serves as a crucial buffer zone flanking the Cam Lo – La Son – Tuy Loan highway. This recently inaugurated arterial road establishes a connection between Quang Tri and Da Nang, intersecting with the Phong Dien Nature Reserve. Encompassing the expansive forests of Phong Dien district and A Luoi district in Thua Thien Hue province, the forest grapples with the impact of ongoing highway construction. This has led to erosion and denudation on numerous hillsides, posing a threat not only to the natural landscape but also to the delicate ecosystem. The imperative to plant trees for the rehabilitation of landslide and erosion-prone hills becomes evident.

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Hoa, COO of FPT Japan, sheds light on the rationale behind FJP’s investment in this area. The choice is attributed to the establishment of Phong Dien Nature Reserve in 2002, covering an expansive 41,443 hectares in Thua Thien Hue province. Nestled within the Truong Son ecological region, a globally recognized key ecological area, the reserve boasts a wealth of biological diversity. It is home to 755 rare endemic plant species, 38 mammal species, 204 bird species, and 35 reptile and amphibian species. The international significance of this locale is underscored by the presence of rare species such as the white-crested pheasant, clouded leopard, black bear, and red-cheeked gibbon.

This initiative aligns with FSOFT’s EcoVadis project, reflecting a commitment to creating green spaces that aid in carbon absorption. It is a step towards the broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, echoing the Vietnamese government’s pursuit of “Net Zero 2050.”

Ms. Do Thi Thanh Huyen, Director of the GAIA Nature Conservation Center, outlines the specifics of the project, including the plantation of 1,002 ironwood and black star trees sponsored by FPT Japan. Additionally, another 1,251 trees will be planted through contributions from 191 individuals and voluntary groups.

Mr. Lam, a ranger at the Khe Liem Forest Protection Management Station, details the meticulous planting process, with each tree placed in fertilized holes at intervals of 2.5 meters. The Gaia Nature Conservation Center pledges to maintain a 70% – 80% survival rate for the trees through direct planting, monitoring, and periodic care over a four-year period. Subsequently, the forest will continue to receive protection from the Khe Liem Forest Protection Management Station.

As part of FSOFT Hue’s inaugural celebration, Nguyen Van Hung (FDN.AS12) expresses joy in contributing to the tree-planting event. He emphasizes the role of businesses, particularly FSOFT, in actively mitigating environmental impacts amid the global challenge of climate change.Mr. Trinh Minh Viet, Director of FSOFT Hue, underscores the importance of ecological responsibility, noting the daily consumption of natural resources and the consequent emissions into the environment. The EcoVadis standard, a comprehensive evaluation platform covering Environment, Ethics, Labor and Human Rights, and Sustainable Procurement, guides FSOFT’s commitment. The aim for Silver EcoVadis certification in 2023 reflects the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility.
