Kaiwa Contest 2024: 5 key tips to avoid losing points in the preliminary round

With only 15 days left, the preliminary round of the Kaiwa Contest will officially begin. 55 teams will compete for the top position. Teams should note the following tips to avoid losing points in the preliminary round.

Pay Attention to Time and Pronunciation

From the chosen topic, the 3 team members will have a maximum of 20 minutes (including preparation) to participate in the contest. The order of the contest will be announced by the organizers to the teams on November 8. Teams need to practice stable speech to help the judges hear the presentation clearly. Avoid a monotonous tone like reading a textbook; instead, add emotions to the speech with natural intonation.

Natural Expressions and Smooth Body Language

A cheerful face and flexible hand movements are the secrets to making the team’s speech lively. The speaking speed should not be too fast or too slow, combined with body language to make the presentation less rigid.

Memorize the Speech – Speak Confidently

The organizers allow teams to use visual materials, but not text-heavy materials during the contest. A confident and fluent presentation will create a good impression with the judges, increasing the chances of advancing to the next round for the teams.

Accurate and Relevant Content – Stick to the Topic

Teams need to stick to the topic given by the organizers to avoid going off track. Prioritize using concise and easy-to-understand expressions. Teams should avoid going off-topic or using overly difficult words that the audience may not understand. Before the preliminary round, teams will be guided by reputable mentors. Take advantage of the time to discuss with mentors to create the most impressive presentation for the judges.

Teamwork and Cohesion – Coherent from Start to Finish

Judges will highly appreciate the harmonious cooperation between team members. The speech needs to be coherent, with a connection from the introduction, body, to conclusion, which will be a “plus point” to help the team advance further in the competition.
