Seattle onsiters go “crabbing” in the summer waters of Washington state

To celebrate the US Independence Day (July 4), several onsite families from the FAM ST5 unit – FPT Americas, including Mr. Pham Duc Trung, Mr. Pham Van Tu, Mr. Nguyen Khac Trung, and Mr. Tran Le Quan – spent the holiday crabbing along the coast of Des Moines, Washington. More than just a getaway, the trip offered a meaningful bonding experience, as the team immersed themselves in nature and embraced the unique charm of summer in the Pacific Northwest.

Crabbing is a popular summertime activity in Puget Sound, especially in July when Dungeness crab season peaks. Known for their sweet, firm meat and distinctive flavor, Dungeness crabs are not only a source of local pride but also a highlight of many family picnics and outdoor gatherings.

In the cool coastal breeze, families gathered to prepare their gear, set traps, and wait eagerly for the first catch of the day, with the same excitement as if it were their very first time. Although they had participated in crabbing in previous years, the thrill of pulling up each pot and discovering what lay inside remained as fresh and exciting as ever.

For Mr. Pham Duc Trung, this crabbing trip was especially memorable as he caught the largest Red Rock crab he’s ever seen — a species native to the Pacific Northwest, recognized for its dark shell, large claws, and firm meat, typically found in rocky coastal areas.

Though brief, the trip brought lasting memories for the FAM ST5 families. It was not just about the crabs, but about refreshing the spirit, strengthening connections, and appreciating the simple joys of life, together, by the sea.
