Gen Z Nguyen Viet Long and his journey of breaking limits in the US Market

Within the team of engineers at FPT Americas (FAM), Nguyen Viet Long, Cloud Security Engineer of FAM.ST5 stands out as a bold representative of Gen Z. Born in 2000, Long embarked on his career in a highly competitive environment, where most colleagues are seasoned professionals. Thanks to his progressive mindset, quick adaptability, and relentless efforts, he soon proved his capabilities, leaving his mark on several important projects in the US market.

Viet Long joined FPT as a Cloud Security Engineer at the Service Development Center for Information Security Assurance (FSOFT SAS). The turning point came when Cao Xuan Vinh, Head Delivery Manager of ST5, reached out to interview him for a key security project in the US. “Initially, I didn’t expect much, just considered it an opportunity to learn. But luckily, after the interview and assessment rounds, I was selected,” Long shared.

That decision opened a nearly two-year journey working in the US – a milestone Long considers the most significant in his career.

In his early days participating in FAM’s key project, Long faced a major challenge as the youngest team member. To prove his capability among experienced colleagues, he proactively learned, continuously honed his skills, and quickly adapted to the work pace. It was this effort that helped Long earn the trust of clients, participate in important technical discussions, and be honored with the Best Performer award in S1/2025.

Besides his solid expertise, Long leveraged AI to enhance work performance and quality. In his role as Cloud Security Engineer, Long used Microsoft Copilot and various AI tools to review code, detect potential security vulnerabilities, analyze security configurations for new cloud services, and build standard configuration baselines to help clients deploy services more securely. He also applied AI in Threat Modeling, assessing and identifying security risks of each service, thereby devising optimal defense mechanisms.

The young engineer emphasized, “AI does not replace humans. Technology is powerful, but it is human knowledge, experience, and thinking that ultimately shape value.” This is also Long’s consistent work philosophy, combining technological support with a strong professional foundation to maximize effectiveness.

With an open mindset and a spirit of continuous learning, Long sees each project as an opportunity to practice, expand his knowledge, and improve his skills. After nearly two years at FAM, Long aims to become a Cloud Solution Architect with deep expertise, leading comprehensive cloud security solutions, delivering sustainable value to clients, and helping FPT reach further in the international market.

Nguyen Viet Long’s story is a testament to the “dare to challenge, dare to breakthrough” spirit of Gen Z at FPT—confident young people who integrate, master technology, and are ready to conquer the global arena.
