Behind the “Mom & Baby” app of the “Long Châu Digital Health Record”
The “Mom & Baby” app – a mini-app within the “Long Châu Digital Health Record” ecosystem developed by GST STU, marks a significant milestone in Vietnam’s journey to digitalize family healthcare. Behind this feature lies an inspiring story of a “small family” of product creators, where every line of code and pixel was crafted with heart.
Originally just a minor feature in the vaccination app, Mom & Baby was given the green light by FPT Retail’s leadership to become an independent project. This decision brought increased pressure, but also created an opportunity for the GST STU team to showcase their capabilities and dedication in helping Long Châu fulfill its mission of applying digital technology to enhance the comprehensive healthcare experience for the public.
Entrusted with this mission, the GST STU team, including Product Designers, UX Researchers, Business Analysts, Developers, Content Creators, and members from BU Ecom Long Châu—collaborated to “nurture” the product from its initial concept to its official launch. “We see the project team as a small family, each person with a unique role, but all united by the goal of delivering a useful and human-centered digital baby,” shared a project representative.

From the outset, the team positioned the Mom & Baby app as a trusted companion for parents, from pregnancy preparation through early childhood. To focus resources and ensure effectiveness, the first MVP version targeted mothers with children aged 0 to 3 years, a critical phase in child development. User research was conducted intensively over one week, combining desk research and direct interviews. Honest feedback from mothers, such as “I’m not sure if my child’s development is normal,” “There are so many parenting styles, it’s hard to choose,” or “I always forget the vaccination schedule”, became valuable input that shaped the app’s features and design.
Within just one month, the Mom & Baby app was launched with a vibrant, cheerful interface: blue for boys, pink for girls. Its features were designed around real parental needs, including weekly developmental updates, personalized care tips, animated sliders to track height and weight against WHO standards, and nutrition suggestions from Long Châu doctors. A standout feature is the digital vaccination record, which syncs with the national immunization system to help parents avoid missed appointments.

Looking ahead, the team plans to expand the app with a suite of advanced features: developmental milestone tracking, vaccination reminders, nutrition product recommendations, sleep and feeding logs, diaper tracking, and even AI-powered tools to analyze baby cries and tell bedtime stories. These innovations aim to transform Mom & Baby into a comprehensive child care platform.
The development journey was not without challenges. Creating 3D visuals of babies with varying health conditions required a delicate balance between scientific accuracy and aesthetic appeal. The team leveraged AI and experimented with multiple prompts to produce consistent, easy-to-understand images that received positive feedback from users. Another hurdle was presenting medical information in a way that was both accurate and approachable. Content was carefully curated in collaboration with Long Châu’s medical team to ensure clarity without overwhelming parents.
The app’s interface underwent rigorous review rounds involving the design team, BA, BU, BOD, and the Chairman of FPT Retail. Every pixel and line of code reflected the team’s meticulous attention to detail and deep dedication to quality.
As the family healthcare sector undergoes rapid transformation, the Mom & Baby app by GST STU contributes to shaping key trends: personalization, AI integration, and community-building among parents. Global reports show that the child care app market is growing rapidly, and Vietnam is part of this momentum. Mom & Baby stands as proof that technology can be warm and human-centered when built with empathy and understanding.
