FPT Americas shapes open infrastructure strategy at Insurance Innovators USA 2025

On May 19 – 20, FPT Americas (FAM) participated in Insurance Innovators USA 2025, one of the most reputable annual forums in the U.S. insurance industry. The event focused on emerging technology trends, smart data, and cross-sector collaboration models, aiming to accelerate the modernization of the insurance sector.

At the conference, Samuel Balcon (FAM.ST3), representing FPT Americas, joined the fireside chat titled “Building an Open Infrastructure for Insurance” alongside Mark Francis (Executive Director & Chief Architect, USAA) and Debasish Duttaroy (SVP of IT, MAPFRE). The discussion centered on strategic approaches to designing open infrastructure that enhances integration, security, and operational efficiency within the insurance ecosystem.

A key highlight of the conversation was the standardization of APIs, which is considered the foundation for seamless connectivity across systems. The speakers emphasized the need for unified standards and trusted digital certification systems to ensure safety, consistency, and scalability.

Harry Hung Tran (FAM.ST3), VP and Head of BFSI Business, also shared his perspective on the major challenges organizations face when dealing with legacy systems, data synchronization, and access control. According to him, overcoming these technical hurdles requires a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns system architecture with operational processes.

The panel also underscored the importance of API lifecycle policies and documentation frameworks in system governance. Integrating these elements helps mitigate risks, enable scalability, and drive continuous service improvement.

Another key theme was the potential of APIs as revenue enablers. By embedding APIs into digital ecosystems, enterprises can modernize data infrastructure, elevate user experiences, and unlock new business models driven by smart connectivity.

The session also addressed the pressing issue of technical debt and legacy systems, often the biggest barriers to digital transformation. Proposed solutions included adopting Zero Trust architecture, refactoring system components, and implementing flexible state management, positioning open infrastructure as a sustainable and cost-effective path forward.

Through practical insights and strategic contributions at the event, FPT Americas reaffirmed its position as a trusted technology partner, committed to supporting insurance enterprises in building a secure, agile, and future-ready digital ecosystem.
