Hanoi University of Science and Technology Cooperates with FPT Japan, FPT Automotive on Digital Automotive Engineering Training

On October 7-8, the leadership team of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) visited FPT Japan (FJP) to explore FPT Automotive’s (FA) role in the automotive industry and the Japanese market’s needs. The goal was to develop a collaboration plan to train IT and mechanical engineers to meet the increasing demand in this market.

The delegation, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trần Ngọc Khiêm, Vice President of HUST, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tạ Hải Tùng, Dean of the School of Information and Communication Technology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trương Hoành Sơn, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, had a working session at FJP’s Mita office in Tokyo on October 7. They were received by FJP CEO Đỗ Văn Khắc, FJP CPO Trịnh Văn Thảo, FA CDO Vũ Tuấn Mạnh, FA VP in Japan Nguyễn Công Hoàng, and other leaders from FA and FPT Language School.

During the meeting, FJP and FA representatives introduced the company, presenting an overview of FPT’s technical capabilities in the automotive sector, with a particular focus on the development of AI technology in this promising field. HUST representatives also shared details of the university’s current engineering training programs and discussed strategies for developing the curriculum to provide high-quality human resources for the automotive technology industry. Notably, HUST aims for its graduates to be equipped to work in international environments.

Both parties reached a consensus on the direction of their collaboration, emphasizing the development of IT and mechanical engineering programs for new fields, particularly digital automotive engineering, to create attractive career opportunities for Vietnamese students in the Japanese market.

FJP CEO Đỗ Văn Khắc expressed his hopes for a long-term partnership between the two sides, including formal agreements on job placement for graduates and support in essential skills training, such as Japanese language proficiency. FPT Japan is also considering sponsoring scholarships and offering Japanese language teaching support to enhance the competitiveness of future engineers.

At the end of the meeting, the HUST delegation visited FPT Language School on October 8. It is expected that by October 2024, FA and HUST will officially sign a memorandum of understanding. FA will assist in building the curriculum and providing infrastructure, with the first cohort of digital automotive engineering students set to be recruited in 2024. This initiative aims to prepare a long-term workforce to support FA’s goal of reaching one billion USD in revenue by 2030.
