Ta Quy (FAM.ST9): “Onsite in Canada provided me with rich life experiences and opened up many opportunities for myself”
After three months onsite in Canada, Ta Quy (FAM.ST9), a Senior Software Engineer on a project at C99, gradually adapted and integrated into the new land, where he had the opportunity to develop his career and become more resilient as he stepped out of his comfort zone.
“When I was in Vietnam, I had a full and stable life, with friends, relatives, and close colleagues by my side, so starting something completely new made me consider this onsite opportunity quite carefully,” Quy shared. However, he believed this would be an exciting experience as he embarked on a new journey instead of repeating the familiar life in Vietnam. From finding accommodation and learning about the living area in Mississauga – the seventh most populous city in Canada, to setting up a diet, lifestyle, and financial plan, everything almost entirely changed for the 90s-born engineer.
Before going to Canada, Quy spent time finding a house and was fortunate to choose one with full amenities, good security, and a helpful Vietnamese landlord. Regarding paperwork, he was also guided and supported by SSC and Vũ Thu Trang (FAM.ST7.SUPP), the administrative officer in Canada, to quickly settle in. He proactively managed his finances for expenses such as living costs, rent deposit, food, and initial necessities, and studied and took the driving test, so he felt quite confident when he arrived in the new land.
Working in the same time zone as the customer, Quy could continuously communicate and discuss with the customer’s Techlead to promptly address arising issues during project implementation. As a result, he further enhanced his professional skills and gained the customer’s trust, leading to more responsibilities.
Maintaining a “work-life balance,” he focused on completing his work and additional research assignments during office hours. After work, he went to the gym to strengthen his health, chatted with friends, and played games to relax. From his house, Quy could ride his bike within a 3km radius to go shopping and visit cafes. For further places like parks, tennis clubs, gyms, and major shopping centers, he took the bus. He is currently studying for his driving test to soon have his own means of transportation, allowing him to focus on work and freely explore Mississauga.
Recently, Quy and his colleagues in Ontario participated in the Summer Sport event, part of FAM’s bonding activities. This was an opportunity for him to enjoy the cool, pleasant weather, immerse himself in nature, and get to know more onsite colleagues in Canada. For him, onsite work helped him accumulate rich life experiences, opening many doors of opportunity to “Level Up” his career and himself in the land of maple leaves.
