Saturday. The elevator down to the apartment lobby is busier than usual. Mr. Nguyen Van Viet’s family (FHN.GIS) is heading to the supermarket together again. The kids scamper ahead and already know every turn by heart. His wife stops by the vegetable section, while he pauses at the dry goods shelves and quickly scans the bullet points on his phone.

Joining FPT Software in early 2013, Mr. Viet began his journey as a Developer. His main responsibility was to keep the rhythm of each line of code.

In 2015, when leadership entrusted him with the role of Team Leader and additional responsibilities as a Scrum Master, he still faced many new challenges. From a purely technical contributor who was used to managing code, he now had to quickly shift into a management role. He had to ensure the quality of deliverables, manage schedules, learn how to lead people, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.

After many times in the trenches and after steering project teams through countless waves, Mr. Viet has built an impressive portfolio of projects with notable milestones. He believes that clear planning, close progress tracking, risk control, expectation management, and building team spirit are essential responsibilities for a PM to keep a project on track and strengthen collaboration.

Fortunately, throughout his growth from Developer to Team Lead and then Project Manager, Mr. Viet has always received encouragement from leaders and teammates. This is something he values deeply and will always remember.

Amid market volatility and rapidly changing technology, Mr. Viet believes this is no longer a time to simply run projects in a purely execution focused way. Instead, it is a period when a PM must maintain trust, sustain motivation, keep consistent momentum, and protect team morale.

AI has become a prominent focus and has made its way into every field. To avoid falling behind, Mr. Viet continually encourages the team to build a solid foundation in AI and apply it to daily work to boost productivity, improve quality, and optimize processes, while also ensuring data security and compliance.

In team management, he constantly reminds himself to set clear goals, break down tasks, provide timely feedback, and create an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing. At the same time, Mr. Viet strengthens his AI related technical capabilities and expands his management mindset so he can understand customers more deeply, work more effectively, and continue honoring the trust he shares with the organization and his teammates.

Looking back on the journey since 2013, Mr. Viet understands that growth comes from being given opportunities and having the courage to take responsibility.
