Phan Le Thanh and the journey of making AI a work culture

As Technical Lead, Phan Le Thanh (FHM.CMS) not only leads 14 members in Program C99 but also pioneers in making artificial intelligence (AI) an essential part of daily work. For him, AI is not just a support tool but a “new resource” that helps the team improve efficiency and focus on higher-value tasks.

In his work, Thanh and his team develop new features to help customers in the automotive sector increase revenue and maintain and transform legacy systems. His journey with AI began from the habit of keeping up with technology through news and seminars. He saw the potential AI could bring, but the real challenge was how to help team members not only know about AI but also master its application in software development.

In his role as “AI Ambassador,” he proactively applies AI, shares experiences, and aligns AI with the team’s specific goals. He organizes AI Sharing sessions, builds a “Team Instruction Book,” shares useful prompts, and encourages everyone to experiment, making AI a daily work habit.

Practical application has shown clear changes. Previously, analyzing old source code took a lot of time and was easily overwhelming; now AI supports quick comprehension, accurate summarization, and reduces errors. Meanwhile, writing Unit Tests, which used to take up half of the coding time, is now halved thanks to AI, allowing developers to focus on more complex tasks.

Thanh has also witnessed a positive transformation among team members: from skepticism and struggling with new concepts, they have gradually become confident in applying, sharing, and even proposing AI ideas for the team. For him, the greatest value of the “AI Ambassador” role is not just spreading tools, but creating sustainable change in mindset, from mindset to skillset and toolset.

From his practical experience, Thanh advises PMs, BAs, engineers, and managers to proactively strengthen their foundational knowledge of AI, use AI to solve repetitive tasks, keep an open mind, and focus deeply on a few specific AI models instead of chasing quantity. The Technical Lead believes that “AI will be the new resource that changes every aspect of software development,” just as Andrew Ng said: “AI is the new electricity.”
