Tips for maintaining balance and well-being as a FAMer

Yoga is recognized for its ability to enhance both physical and mental well-being, contributing to an improved quality of life. That’s why Ms. Duong Thuy Lam (FAM.ST5) has opted to engage in this practice, maintaining a healthy routine to rejuvenate after work.

In September 2022, the Seattle Yoga group was founded with the aim of inspiring individuals to prioritize health and flexibility through guided coaching. Spearheaded by Ms. Tran Ngoc Anh (FAM.ST9), and with unwavering support and encouragement from her husband Nguyen Duc Quang (FAM.ST9) to care for their child, her motivation to engage in the activities increased. “Initially, I felt overwhelmed with time constraints, needing to arrange early dinners for rest before practice. After approximately two weeks of organizing and receiving assistance from my husband in household tasks and childcare, I gradually adjusted to the new routine and developed a passion for regular yoga practice,” shared Ms. Lam.

Initially, the group scheduled 2 online classes per week, later ramping up to 3 sessions weekly from 8:30 to 10:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Despite the virtual setup, members showed great enthusiasm. It’s essential to manage work and family commitments to ensure attendance. Apart from practicing at home in the evenings, female participants gather at the park for group practice, enjoying fresh air and capturing moments in photos whenever possible. Yoga has become a daily routine for Ms. Lam, helping her kick start each day with rejuvenating movements and increased energy for a productive workday. Both Ms. Lam and her young daughter enjoy practicing together, following the simple exercises.

For Ms. Lam, exercising not only enhances her physical flexibility, strength, and overall health but also aids in maintaining mental equilibrium. By incorporating breathing techniques and calming movements in her yoga practice, she effectively reduces stress and alleviates mental strain. Ms. Lam shared, “During busy project periods, I noticed a significant improvement in my mental balance. It became easier for me to juggle work and personal life, enhance my focus, release negative energy, alleviate anxiety, and restore emotional well-being.”

Additionally, by joining the yoga group, she broadened her local connections through conversations, sharing, and bonding with her peers. Yoga proved particularly beneficial during her second pregnancy, aiding in her health improvement. As Ms. Lam adjusted to her new project and received encouraging updates, she increasingly appreciated the positive impact of yoga and desired to sustain the practice for long-term comfort and peace of mind.
